SfL Introduces New Member to Board of Directors

September 5, 2024

Solutions from the Land (SfL) is proud to announce the induction of Northeast Arkansas farmer Brad Doyle into our Board of Directors. With this addition, Doyle joins twelve other esteemed members dedicated to advancing agricultural solutions to global challenges.

“We’re excited to welcome Brad into his new position as a member of the SfL Board of Directors,” says Ernie Shea, SfL President. “Our Board of Directors supervise, control and direct the affairs of the organization. They determine its policies or changes within our non-profit, and they also help us secure funding to support the future of SfL’s efforts.”

Doyle has a long-standing history with SfL, having served as a Farmer Envoy, where he represented the voices of producers at the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COP 27 and COP 28). Doyle owns and operates Eagle Seed, LLC, and Eagle Research, LLC, where he implements climate-smart practices. He farms soybeans, rice and wheat in Northeast Arkansas as well as hay in the Ozark Mountains with his wife, son and brother-in-law.

“We have two surface water reservoirs on our main farm that collect and hold rainwater for irrigation through a tailwater recovery system,” says Doyle, a 2024 Conservation Legacy recipient. “Our other farms have re-lift pumps in adjacent waterways allowing us to conserve groundwater by using excess runoff water.  Water conservation is a major part of our farming operation and our proximity to the Mississippi River waterfowl flyway serves as feeding grounds in the winter.”

In addition to water conservation, the Doyles’ rice production is milled locally, with rice hulls repurposed as bedding for nearby poultry farms. After the soybean meal from locally grown crops is consumed by poultry, the family purchases the litter as fertilizer, applying it back to their fields. Precision-grid soil sampling and variable rate fertilization further support their no-till and cover crop strategies, exemplifying a circular bioeconomy system they’ve refined over the years.

SfL looks forward to the impactful contributions Doyle will continue to bring as the team champions the role of farmers in achieving global sustainable development goals. Doyle will join his fellow Directors during week two of COP 29 delegations this November, to further advocate for circular bioeconomy systems, among other critical issues shaping the future of global farming.

“I look forward to joining my colleagues in Azerbaijan this fall to continue our mission of elevating farmer voices in climate-focused discussions,” Doyle says. “Farmers can play a pivotal role in meeting our SDGs.”
