4R Nutrient Solution

A Story from the Land

Equipping Global Farmers With the Knowledge to Spur a 21st Century Agricultural Renaissance—-

The 4R Nutrient Stewardship Project is a 5-year, $17 million initiative in which Fertilizer Canada and the Co-operative Development Foundation, with support from Global Affairs Canada, aim to enhance agricultural production, form and strengthen farmer co-operatives, increase the acceptance of women in leadership, and educate and equip farmers with the 4R principles in Ghana and Ethiopia. Read more about their exciting work here!

The 4R Nutrient Principles (applying nutrients with the Right Source @ the Right Rate, the Right Time, and the Right Place®) have the potential to address many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Life on Land. The project teaches farmers through online as well as hands-on, experiential learning platforms and demonstration plots how to use the principles to increase yields that address hunger and ensure crops to sell for livelihoods, and precisely apply inputs to decrease environmental and financial costs.

Solutions from the Land (SfL) supports the effort to better enable and integrate technology and climate smart 4R principles and best agronomic practices to meet global SDGs. After visiting Ghana to learn more about how the 4R principles are being deployed through the Global 4R Nutrient Project in Africa to resolve food, energy, environmental and climate challenges, we are proud to partner with Fertilizer Canada to tell this 4R Story from the Land.

Learn more through the SfL case study and accompanying video how adopting more sustainable farming practices can increase resilience, incomes, and food security, and reduce poverty for men, women and children.
