SfL Co-Chairs Holiday Message

December 20, 2021

Dear Friends and Supporters of SfL,

Holiday greetings and best wishes to All!  With 2021 coming to an end, we’re reminded of the Charles Dickens quote from A Tale of Two Cities:

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

For all of us who can say that these past two years have been unlike anything else we’ve ever experienced, it’s also important to remember that the ‘Great Generation’ that went through the Depression and WWII are veterans of tough times and great triumphs. Our habit of looking at the glass and seeing it as half empty or half full depends on how we understand the contents of the pitcher that is pouring out the experiences.  These past two years, 2020-21 have certainly altered the way we see the world and how we view the future!

At Solutions from the Land, the inspiring work of our remarkable Board, Advisors and of Ernie Shea and his team have continually demonstrated that this 21st Century Agriculture Renaissance speaks of the need for wisdom over foolishness, of belief in sound science over speculation and of the hope and optimism that comes with each season of hard work and harvest.  We can see that the agricultural glass is not only half full, but is being filled with new thinking and imagination, innovative collaboration and measurable, positive results.  Our SfL work these past years has been international, national and regional.  From COP 26 to the Ohio River Valley, Iowa, Florida, the Delmarva Peninsula and the headwaters of the Colorado River, we are spreading the message that it is time to transition from a ‘think tank’ to a ‘do tank’ frame of mind.  It is a message driven by urgency and promise.

We are so very thankful for all of your support, leadership and generosity!  Please do help us to make a difference in promoting a ‘season of light’ for agriculturists all over the world!  Our modest, little non-profit will stay busy advancing this important work and we truly appreciate your donation and contributions!   It is an honor and privilege to work with all of you.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and an exciting and fruitful new year!

Cheers and gratitude,
