Exploring the impacts of increasingly extreme weather events and changing climatic conditions on the agricultural and forestry sectors of North Carolina, and constructing an adaptive management plan to improve agriculture and forestry resiliency and further enhance the economic viability of these sectors for decades to come.

NC-STRAT Adaptive Management Strategies

From the very first seeds that were planted in the ground to the first meat and dairy animals that were domesticated, producers have historically been making adjustments to meet the many challenges of variable and extreme weather events. The history of the North Carolina agriculture and forestry is a tale of adaptation and remarkable progress in the face of these challenges. Leaders from the Tar Heel State’s commodity crop, livestock, forestry and specialty crop sectors developed sector-specific recommendations for adaptive management practices, policies and programs.
