Biographical Info
David Hanselmann is a Lecturer and the Environmental Professionals Network (EPN) Coordinator at The Ohio State University, School of Environment and Natural Resources. Each semester he teaches the School’s capstone course for seniors majoring in environmental science, environmental policy, and natural resources management. Each May he also teaches a four-week all-day, every-day field trip-based course, Conservation Planning and Practices – Ag and Urban. In 2012 Hanselmann established the EPN, now with nearly 1800 professionals across Ohio plus OSU students, faculty and staff networking online. The EPN also features diverse monthly breakfast programs averaging over 135 attendees, mainly from outside the University. Many programs are focused on sustainability and agriculture. Prior to joining the OSU faculty in 2011, Hanselmann served for many years as Chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Soil and Water Resources. There he assisted Ohio’s 88 soil and water conservation districts and implemented a wide range of agricultural, water and land resources, environmental, and education programs, both regulatory and assistance-based. He also established many cooperative programs with NGOs, local, state, and federal agencies, the private sector, and academia. During his final two years at ODNR he concurrently served as Chief of the Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention. He holds a B.S. in biology/ecology from Purdue University and an M.S. in ecology from Duke University.
