25x’25 Vision: By 2025, America’s farms, forests and ranches will provide 25 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States, while continuing to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed and fiber.

Alliance News

Dr. Janice Bohac of South Carolina was on a recent David Letterman show to show off a 15-pound industrial sweet potato that she grows for biofuels feedstock research.  After the Letterman show she went to DC to meet with USDA officials regarding feedstock options.  Brent saw her at the South Carolina Bioenergy Summit last week and  told him that she wore her 25x’25 button!

Her segment started at minute 37:04 into the show and you can view the segment by clicking here.

In February 2008, the 25x’25 Initiative, the South Carolina Biomass Council (SCBC), and the South Carolina Energy Office (SCEO) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Under the MOU, the parties have agreed to work together to make South Carolina a premier example for the achievement of the goals of the 25x’25 Initiative through effective networking opportunities, establishment of collaborative efforts, and promotion of good policy change.

The expectations are that the SCBC will create a roadmap outlining how the generation of bio-based renewable energy will result in positive economic opportunities, including increasing net farm income, while improving the environment and human health and helping reduce foreign oil demand. The SCEO will help support the efforts of the SCBC in the development of the strategy. It is envisioned that this project and partnership will build a stronger base of support for the mission of the SCBC and the Vision of 25x’25.  To read the MOU click the link below.
