Statement of Bart Ruth, chairman, 25x'25 Alliance Executive Committee,

on President Trump's budget proposal for fiscal 2018

May 23. 2017

The 25x’25 Alliance is disappointed with President Trump's budget proposal for fiscal

2018, though not surprised in that it adds details to the “skinny” budget proposal issued

by the White House in March and maintains the same draconian cuts to the programs

and services that benefit rural America and the production of clean energy from our

farms, ranches and forestlands. However, it should be remembered that members of

Congress have made very clear that the president's proposal is just that – a suggested

line of spending. Congressional budget writers can be expected to develop a fiscal 2018

budget that supports efforts to shore up our small towns and farming communities that

have suffered economically over the past four years. Those efforts include renewable

energy programs and initiatives that create jobs and boost local revenues. 25x'25

stands ready to work with lawmakers to develop a spending plan for the next fiscal year

that meets the challenges facing America and includes solutions such as the

development of wind, solar, biomass, biofuels, geothermal and hydropower energy

resources.
